About Us
The Center for Faculty Diversity and Inclusion provides leadership and works collaboratively to cultivate an academic culture of inclusive excellence. We are a unit of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
Transformational change
From guiding the development of more inclusive policies and practices to monitoring faculty trends and advocating for increased accountability, the Center for Faculty Diversity and Inclusion strives for institutional change and progress.
Cultivating faculty success and leadership
Through a variety of online tools, funding opportunities, faculty networks, and campus workshops, our programs offer:
- Skill-based professional development
- Opportunities for peer mentoring and networking
- Opportunities for leadership in diversity and equity
- Communities of support for underrepresented faculty
Fostering civility in academia
The Center for Faculty Diversity and Inclusion offers faculty peer mediation to help resolve disagreements among faculty through a confidential and informal process. In addition, we offer annual mediation training and seminars on engaging in healthy conflict and working with difficult colleagues.
Recruiting and retaining diverse faculty
By supporting outstanding postdoctoral scholars who contribute to diversity at UC San Diego, advocating for inclusive hiring practices, and supporting the campus Faculty Equity Advisors, we are increasing faculty diversity. The Associate Vice Chancellor for Faculty Recruitment and Retention provides private consultations to any faculty member with concerns about career progression or career equity.
